Alexia Akbay is the CEO of Symbrosia, a Kailua-Kona-based clean-tech startup that cultivates limu kohu (Asparagopsis taxiformis) for use as a natural livestock feed additive shown to decrease livestock methane emissions by up to 90%. Her background is in green chemistry, with specific use-cases in human health, but decided to channel her efforts towards the root of these health effects: climate change mitigation. She holds an MPH from Yale University and a B.S in Chemistry from New York University.
