H.E. Dr. Azmi Mahafzah is Minister of Education of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He obtained his MD degree in 1977 from Damascus University, Syria and his PhD degree in Microbiology and Immunology in 1984 from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He then joined the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Jordan as an assistant professor of Microbiology and Immunology before pursuing post-doctoral fellowship training in Virology at Yale University School of Medicine. Professor Mahafzah has been working as a faculty member at the University of Jordan since 1984, during which period he has served as chairman of the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine, Director of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Jordan University Hospital, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from October, 2010 until appointed the Vice President for Scientific Faculties of the University of Jordan in September, 2013. Professor Mahafzah is a member of several scientific societies and committees.
