Elizabeth McGovern is a Trustee of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, a 21st century philanthropy advancing artificial intelligence and data solutions to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all. As a physician, social entrepreneur, and philanthropist, she is passionate about health and wellbeing, social justice, and the opportunity to "create the world we want to see" as we enter a radical global transformation enabled by new technologies. Liz is also the founder and executive director of WEEMA International, a NGO committed to community-led development in Southwestern Ethiopia. WEEMA closely partners with rural communities to ensure access to clean water, enhance education, empower marginalized people, strengthen health systems, and achieve food security. To date, WEEMA has reached over 250,000 people with its programs. Prior to WEEMA, Liz served for 16 years in Massachusetts health centers caring for the urban poor as well as newly arrived immigrants and refugees. She received her B.S. from Haverford College and M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
