Dr. Kalpana Apte is a medical doctor with a ‘Master of Public Health (MPH)’ in Human
Sexuality. Currently, she is working as the CEO of the Family Planning Association of
India (FPA India) - one of the largest civil society organizations, working on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in India. She is currently pursuing an International Masters Programme for Managers (IMPM), aiming to work on strengthening the Management of the healthcare sector, particularly within a not-for-profit framework.
She is a well-known expert and a thought leader in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Family Planning. Her work includes ensuring expanding access to SRH Services and translating community-level voices in policy speak. She is a Champion of SRHR issues and works with her team in implementing at-scale sexual and reproductive health-related services, monitoring the quality of services, designing and providing clinical and skills-based training for various cadres of health care providers in sexual and reproductive health and related issues and program implementation.
Contraceptive technology, quality of services, and reproductive rights are some of
the key areas of her interest. She has been involved in strategies to expand the
contraceptive choices in India, particularly the newer methods like implants,
injectables, Female condoms, vaginal ring, and others.
She is a member of various national and international advisory committees, Task
forces, and expert groups. She has several publications to her credit & has contributed many chapters for textbooks.
