Martin Tomasik
Professor for Research Methods in Developmental and Educational Sciences, University of Zurich
Switzerland
Dr. Martin Tomasik is Full Professor for Research Methods in Developmental and Educational Sciences at the Institute of Education and Scientific Director at the Institute for Educational Evaluation, both at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). He has studied psychology at the Free University in Berlin (Germany) and received his doctoral degree at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena (Germany). After that, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the PATHWAYS program funded by the Jacobs Foundation, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), Visiting Professor at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel (Germany), and Associate Professor for Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Witten-Herdecke (Germany). His research is situated at the intersection between educational and developmental science and focuses on research technology, quantitative methodology, and mathematical modelling. It addresses conceptual and methodological challenges related to the measurement of intraindividual change and interindividual differences in this change. He is also involved in the R&D of digital tools for the measurement of learning or developmental processes and the advancement of the corresponding mathematical models. Recent publications comprise studies on the effect of school closures on learning gains, an analysis of the long-term trajectories of academic performance, an analysis of the validity benefits of computer-based student assessments, and mathematical models of multiple goal striving.
