Managing Director for Law and Policy, Everytown for Gun Safety | Judge for Everytown for Gun Safety Prize

Nick brings over 15 years of legal and policy experience in the public and private sectors to the role of Managing Director for Law and Policy. Directly prior to joining Everytown, he served as Senior Advisor and Special Counsel to the New York State Attorney General, where he formulated legal strategies in the areas of criminal justice, public safety, technology, and government integrity. In this role, Nick developed a deep understanding of the complexities and opportunities for governments trying to combat gun violence. He was the lead author of the landmark report, Target on Trafficking, and created a crime gun tracing database to combat interstate gun trafficking. He led the Attorney General’s effort to curb advertisements for illegal gun sales on Facebook and Instagram, was cross-designated to the New York Organized Crime Task Force for his work on combating untraceable “ghost guns,” and coordinated the multistate AG effort to oppose federally mandated concealed carry reciprocity.

Nick has handled both sides of complex criminal and civil cases as an assistant attorney general in the Criminal Division of the New York Attorney General’s Office and as a litigation attorney at the law firm of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. Prior to beginning private practice, Nick clerked for the Honorable Richard Conway Casey in the District Court for the Southern District of New York. He received his JD with high honors from the George Washington University Law School and his BA from Wesleyan University.
