Rana el Kaliouby is co-founder and CEO of Affectiva, the pioneer in Emotion AI.  She led the innovation of the company’s patented emotion recognition technology, which was built using deep learning and the world’s largest emotion data repository of 6 million faces analyzed in 87 countries, amounting to more than 50 billion data points. Prior to founding Affectiva, she spearheaded applications of emotion-sensing at MIT Media Lab, where she was a Research Scientist. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including The New Yorker, Wired, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNN, TIME Magazine, and more. Rana was featured as a TED Speaker and was recognized by Entrepreneur as one of the “7 Most Powerful Women To Watch In 2014” as well as a recipient of Smithsonian magazine's 2015 American Ingenuity Award for Technology, among other awards. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.
