More Than 950 Solutions from All Over the World were Submitted to Solve’s 2017 Global Challenges for Chance to be Selected as Finalists During United Nations General Assembly Week
Innovators and entrepreneurs will have a chance to live pitch expert judges and a live audience for incredible prizes as part of MIT’s new Solve initiative on September 17 during the United Nations General Assembly Week. The prizes include:
- Up to US$ 1 million from the Atlassian Foundation in grant funding for the Youth, Skills, and the Workforce of the Future Challenge to selected Solver teams from non-government organizations, non-profits, social enterprises, academics, entrepreneurs and for-profit organizations.
- Up to US$ 1 million from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in grant funding for the Youth, Skills, and the Workforce of the Future Challenge to selected Solver teams who will have an impact in developing countries across the Indo-Pacific.
- Mentorship prizes curated by world-class cellist Yo-Yo Ma for selected Solver teams who present arts and culture solutions across all four Challenges.
Solve is a community that brings together technologists, social entrepreneurs, business leaders, policymakers, researchers, and other change agents to unearth and implement solutions to specific, actionable challenges facing the world.
Solve’s 2017 Global Challenge co-chairs include:

- Ursula Burns, Retired Chairman and CEO, Xerox Corporation
- Indra Nooyi, Chairman & CEO, PepsiCo
- Laurene Powell Jobs, Founder and President, Emerson Collective

Solve issues challenges for anybody around the world to apply, and identifies the best solutions through open innovation. It builds and convenes a community of leaders who have the resources, the expertise, the mentorship, and the know-how to get each solution piloted, scaled, and implemented.
More than 950 solutions from all over the world were submitted to Solve’s 2017 Global Challenges: (1) Brain Health, (2) Sustainable Urban Communities, (3) Women and Technology, and (4) Youth, Skills, and the Workforce of the Future.
The Solve Challenge Finals in New York City will place the selected finalists in front of a panel of expert judges and a live audience to pitch their solutions. Those chosen by Solve’s judges will become Solver teams and join the Solve community to build partnerships with cross-sector leaders that help pilot, scale, and implement their solutions.
