Solution Overview

Solution name:

Evidence Gathering 2030

One-line solution summary:

A community platform to share and learn from evidence backed solutions.

Which Challenge does your solution most closely address?

Showcasing 1000 Solutions for Quality Learning: How can 1,000 actionable school-led solutions be codified, validated, and showcased through an online portal to help the world’s teachers and education policy-makers improve quality learning for all?

Pitch your solution.

We are building a community platform that crowdsources evidence-backed solutions from users all over the world and enables users to use these practices in their own context. The learning side of the platform will give you access to all the solutions and simple learning modules to master each practice in depth. Each solution will also be rated on the strength of evidence and the ease of use, rated by a community of experts and users respectively. Teachers will be able to submit their own experiences when using an existing solution in their own context, which will generate a growing base of evidence over time. The sharing platform will also provide teachers with resources to use HCD and credible data collection practices to test and generate their own solutions, which they can then submit to the platform. Researchers around the world can also use this growing repository to identify interesting interventions to evaluate at large scale, such as through RCTs.

In what city, town, or region is your solution team headquartered?

Genève, Switzerland

Our solution's stage of development:

Concept

Is this a new solution, an existing solution, or an adaptation of an existing solution?

New solution

How does your solution incorporate research?

We are building a community of experts who will verify the evidence and research behind incoming solutions and also add existing research that supports them. The community of experts will be well versed in different types and strengths of evidence, including non-experimental, quasi-experimental, and experimental methods. They will be tasked with assigning a rating for each published solution, and with updating this rating as new experiences, data, and evidence arising from the wider community. This community can include researchers, impact experts, and educators, who will all go through a series of training to become a part of this expert community.

Who is the Team Lead for your solution?

Laura Castro

More About Your Solution

What makes your solution innovative?

Offering teachers access to a toolkit that enables them to develop their own solutions, growing the high-quality evidence-based repository; strength of evidence determined by a community of experts.

What is your theory of change?

If we make it easy for teachers to find evidence-based education solutions, and make it easy for them to understand how to implement it in their own context, and allow them to report back their experience with the community, and equip interesting parties to develop more solutions; then more teachers will find and implement evidence-based solutions in their classrooms that will increase holistic learning outcomes for students around the world.

In which countries do you plan to be operating within the next year?

What are your impact goals for the next year and the next five years, and how will you achieve them?

(1) Curate at least 1,000 evidence-based solutions across the 1,000 Schools 2030 network (1 per school/organization per year in the first year)
(2) Design and showcase mini-courses to supplement and develop the best and most popular solutions
(3) Make the platform available to users beyond the Schools 2030 network for both testing and sharing new solutions (target: 1,000 more schools per year)
(4) Build localized communities of experts in every part of the world, starting with the 10 focus countries, to support and verify the strength of evidence behind each practice
(5) Support local educators in their use of evidence backed practices inside their classroom or learning space

What barriers currently exist for you to accomplish your goals in the next year and in the next five years?

Our team does not have an organization behind it, we are just a group of motivated individuals who would need strong support to work on implementation.
The solution will need to provide access in multiple languages, as there may not be 1 common language for all users of the platform.

How do you plan to overcome these barriers?

Either partner with an organization that has already built a similar solution, or get connected to an organization that has the capabilities to build a platform like this. IPA is willing to support on some aspects of the solution.

With respect to the language barrier: partner with local education organizations that can adopt content management of their local version of the platform.
