Solution Name:

PeruTeQuiero Aprendiendo

One-line solution summary:

Focuses on promoting integral education given the gap caused by the pandemic by the implementation of online tutoring sessions.

Pitch your solution.

The Ministry of Education in Peru has shown that around 300,000 school students dropped out during 2020 and we are committed to solve this problem.

- Our program is focused on strengthening the capacity of the educational system in Peru, by gathering an increasing number of free tutoring sessions, teaching volunteers, students with risk of dropping out and for those students who are suffering emotional problems we offer free psychological care.
- Until now we have helped approximately 3,000 students across 11 regions in Peru. We believe that if our solution is escalated globally we could help students in other developing countries in Latin America, increasing these 3,000 students to hopefully 10,000 students in the short term along with doubling the number of volunteers, and hiring full time tutors.

What specific problem are you solving?

Peru is one of the countries most affected by the pandemic having had more than 180,000 deaths due to Covid - 19, and an economic decline of about 11.1% in 2020. Schools have been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 300,000 school students have dropped out since then which is about 15% of the total enrolled school students in the country. Furthermore, schools in Peru have had one of the longest closing periods, having been completely closed since March 2020 and expected to be completely closed at least until the end of 2021 when all citizens expect to be fully vaccinated. This problem has greatly impacted people who lack technological tools to learn such as a cellphone or a computer, poor internet connection, and an inefficient educational system. Being in most cases the public system the one with poorer performance.

What is your solution?

Our solution consists of firstly taking advantage of the already created group of volunteers to extend our support in education in Peruvian government and ONGs. Then accompanying students in assembling archives with their school assignments, a requirement by the Ministry of Education in Peru. After those tasks are finished, we perform a reinforcement on essential scholar subjects such as mathematics and

language through a leverage of pedagogical resources. - Throughout this process, we will use remote facilities, each volunteer is required to

have its own computer or cellphone to video call the student. There will be no need for in-person meetings since Covid-19 is still greatly affecting Peru as well as many other developing countries, and remote classes also provide accessibility to distant places.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

Our target population are students of different ages with risk of dropping out, lack of technological tools, and children and workers who live in rural and remote areas.

Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?

Increase the engagement of learners in remote, hybrid, and physical environments, including strategies and tools for parental support, peer interaction, and guided independent work.

Explain how the problem you are addressing, the solution you have designed, and the population you are serving align with the Challenge.

Provide academic support to primary, middle and high school students in their classes through an increased availability for free high quality tutoring sessions. The project has the objective of taking advantage and increasing the already created group of volunteers, accompanying students in assembling archives with their school assignments which is a requirement by the Ministry of Education in Peru, and reinforcement in essential subjects such as mathematics and language through leverage of pedagogical resources.

In what city, town, or region is your solution team headquartered?

Lima, Peru

What is your solution’s stage of development?

Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.

Explain why you selected this stage of development for your solution.

We selected the growth stage level of development because our organization has an already established project and business plan, and has developed it throughout 11 rural regions with the least access to technology in Peru. We have achieved our goals, in the short term, by having approximately 3,000 students, and expect to grow in Peru in the following months to 1,600 volunteers and approximately 3,300 students.
