The Solution
Rejecting the unethical practices rampant in fast fashion, Soko connects artisan entrepreneurs with the international fashion consumer through its mobile-based “virtual factory.” The virtual factory serves as an ethical and transparent platform from which marginalized artisans can grow their business by selling accessories primarily composed of locally-sourced and eco-friendly materials.
Previously limited by narrow market access and infrastructure, artisans in small, informal workshops use Soko to tap into international demand for their work. Soko products are influenced by architecture and traditional tribal designs, giving them both a modern and authentic aesthetic. As the second largest employer in the developing world, the artisan craft industry is well-posed to lead the transition to sustainable fashion.
