Indigenous Safe Shelter

This solution will be a safe shelter for Indigenous women experiencing DV, it will include a cultural focus and alleviate cases of MMIW and DV
What specific problem are you solving?
A problem we are focusing on is Domestic violence in the Indigenous community since 94% (UIHI.org) of Indigenous women have faced violence in their lifetime and DV is also significantly high in the Indigenous community. The scale is global for these statistics. According to theorist religion and spiritual practices raise the well being of people so a safe shelter with a focus on Indigenous culture can help decolonize and help them recover from trauma from domestic violence and historic/intergenerational trauma.
What is your solution?
The solution is to provide an immediate safe shelter first for women experiencing domestic violence first. Then we will gather data with assessments given by case managers that are de-indentified in order to keep track of the statistics ans the program with a protected password system like SharePoint or something similar. Then once in the program they will meet with their case managers to work on their needs, whether it's employment or TANF. Then there will be Substance use disorder treatment groups conducted by experts in that field, there will be trauma informed healing groups and 1on1 counseling by experts in that field and with a focus on cultural groups and activities like beading, root digging, smudging ceremonies and agriculture which can be introduced by cultural leaders in tribal communities and peers.
Strong preference will be given to Native-led solutions that directly benefit and are located within the Indigenous communities. Which community(s) does your solution benefit? In what ways will your solution benefit this community?
The target population is the native community who's lives is meant to be improved. I am trying to understand the needs by not only growing up on the reservation and in the community but also by listening and will be gathering more data from Indigenous voices as to what is needed in the community. I am engaging them as I have been an outspoken advocate for MMIW and other Indigenous rights and restoration. The solution will address the needs by paving a way for independence by giving DV survivors the tools and skills to become financially independent and independent in other ways as well as paving a way for healing from trauma and intergenerational trauma and to reconnect with culture.
How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?
All of us on the team identify as Indigenous amd have grown up in the Indigenous community or on the reservations so we have proximity and, identify and knowledge before hand. With this knowledge to the community by being apart of the community we have observed the needs of the community and have all worked in social work areas so have also listened and have helped to amplify the voices of the community especially MMIW survivors or their families. And have seen a want for the reconnection to culture and have seen the research for the spiritual practices ans the correlation to healing.
