We must learn to go back and develop applications for older phones that most women in developing countries own. If we want to help those who can't come out and prosper on their own we must go in and help and use what they know.

Our pitch:

Firstly, let me mention that I come from one of the poorest countries in the world - Malawi. Not everyone, especially women have the privilege of owning an expensive smart phone. I was thinking… it would be very difficult and expensive to provide every woman with a smart phone (a good one) so why don’t we give them what they require through the phones that they already have. We can develop applications, using android Studio or even MIT app inventor, that can provide simple tips for women to fully participate and prosper in the economy. Such as tips for how to set up a bank account or how to start up their own business or even simply how to raise a family without worrying about cost as we could teach them how to budget.  Nokia phones (old) are what a majority of Malawians use as their communication device. We could learn then program in the language used in a simple Nokia phone. Develop applications that work in the Symbian Operating System and have different language options for different countries so that all women can learn and participate effectively in society which is what I wish to achieve either through this competition or on my own once I’m out of school. If scaled we would help a lot of women from the comfort of their own tech without bombarding them with a lot of new information.

I feel that this would be very effective as we are not giving them new technology but using their technology… the technology that they are familiar with and teaching them through that while saving A LOT of money from buying new smartphones :).

The problem:

The problem most women face and from what i have seen is that they do not have the same understanding of the world compared to the modern women in the western world as they do not have the technology. Fine... we help them through their technology. That is a major problem it is the ability to learn new things especially the concept of new tech. Here we would be using what they know and helping them further.

Why our solution will solve the problem:

Malawi's 'Mhub' is helping women through new tech however, it is slow as it's new ... this is where my solution comes in.

We are developing slow, but i can tell you women here do have phones with screens and we can help through those screens. If we are successful our country might start to develop differently (for the better) as currently our options are limited due to women not given the knowledge from when they are young girls. We can give them back the knowledge they missed out not only for my country but other countries too.
